Who is the Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa for?

Prospective Entrepreneurs, from non-EEA countries or Switzerland, wishing to enter the UK to start a business should use the Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa. This option is for those who plan to take over a company that is already trading. Applicants will need to be actively involved in the running of the business or businesses in the UK and have the option to set up the business as a sole trader, partnership or UK registered company. 

The Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa allows the applicant to ultimately apply for Settlement and then lead to a British passport.

 
What are the eligibility requirements?

In order for your application to be successful you are required to meet the eligibility requirements and score a total of 95 points under the points-based system. The points are granted for eligibility requirements.

To successfully obtain the entrepreneur visa, the applicant must:

• Have access to £200,000 – this could be their own funds or from a third party, or
• Have access to £50,000 via a seed funding competition, UK government department or a venture capital firm.
• Meet the English language requirement
• Hold the adequate maintenance funds for the main applicant and any dependents applying with the applicant
• Be a Genuine entrepreneur- You must show that you genuinely seek to set up a viable business in the UK. This is subjective; the home office will take into account, previous experience, qualifications and examine your credentials.

Once you are able to demonstrate the requirements the initial visa is granted for a period of 3 years.

 

How do I extend my Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa?

What is it that makes meeting the requirements for extending your Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa so difficult?

The extension requirements and rules for a Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa are very complex as the applicant is required to collect ongoing evidence during the initial grant of the visa. One example is that the Entrepreneur is expected to demonstrate, via Real Time documents, how 2 jobs have been created throughout the 3 year period; and the jobs are required to last for a minimum of 12 months. These jobs could be made up of full-time or equivalent part time jobs.
